This concept is applied in Aviation for decades, on refreshing Simulators training for Pilots, every six months, based on the premise that after this period, even if you have good memory, you would remember 20% max.
For Semi-submersibles, the Ballast Control & Stability refreshing courses are every two years, due the costs of physical units. We aim to break this paradigm delivering advanced eTraining technology on cloud platforms.
Well said Alex
As the 2 yearly simulator refreshers are only recommended, most companies will not sent the persons responsible for stability/ ballast control unless it is a requirement in the safety case/ flag state or in response to an incident. Although SOLAS recommends the use of an LCS as part of any damage control exercise on a 3 monthly basis, most MAE Loss of stability training is conducted annually due to the impact on operations.
Systems such as yours will allow the BCO/ DPO/ responsible person to conduct more frequent loss of stability training, specific to the MOU, to better enhance the unit's emergency response capability. Unfortunately it will require promotion by Class/ Flag or industry associations such as the International Association of Drilling Contractors to achieve a more widespread adoption across the industry.
